The humble beginnings of the Rossouw Modern Art Galleries began in 1991 when Joshua Rossouw, armed with only passion and an empty wallet, started selling his paintings at local open-air markets. His dynamic personality attracted people to him and soon his skills were extended as he began promoting other local artists. Just four years later in 1995, Joshua acquired an old fisherman’s cottage in the business centre of Hermanus, and here he opened doors to the Fisherman’s Gallery – today known as the Rossouw Modern Hermanus. Joshua travelled extensively in search of talented southern African artists. With major developments and construction for 2010 taking place at the Waterfront, Joshua relocated his Cape Town gallery to the peaceful surroundings of the winelands at Groot Constantia Wine Estate in 2006. Here the outstanding works he has sourced hang in the Bertram’s Wine Tasting Room, in The Cellar and at Simon’s Restaurant. Joshua represents many gifted and established artists, and continues to be on a constant lookout for new South African talent. His impassioned drive to serve the art community and his unwavering desire to please his clients, have made Joshua, and the Rossouw Modern Art Galleries, the success they are today.
The artists represented, are carefully selected, ensuring that every work of art is not accepted merely for its aesthetic appeal, but that it will offer investment value in return.
A visit to a Rossouw Modern Art Gallery will prove to be an exhilarating experience, as Joshua and his trained staff delight in sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm. Patrons can be assured of efficient service and practical advice, and will undoubtedly find something marvellous to take home with them.
