KALIEFEES PROGRAM:The 10th KALIEFEES is taking place this coming weekend from Thursday 5 August to Monday 9 August, and Rossouw Modern in Hermanus has 3 exciting fringe happenings planned. Please join us for one or all of the events. THURSDAY 05 AUGUST @ 3PM. Join us for some wine and snacks at the unveiling of 2 artists, AIDEN WESTCOTT and ZINGISA NKOSINKULU'S works Joshua has selected from his Grahamstown Arts Festival experience. AIDEN WESTCOTT: Aiden works in collage and mixed media and portrays all things old and new. His worksmanship is intense and perfectly executed, and each finished artwork becomes a memory, and a promise of the future for us in the present. He is mainly represented by Mark Read in Knysna, and know with us in Hermanus. ZINGISA NKOSINKULU: Zingisa's works are of the exhibition POWERLINES that he brought as a one man show to Grahamstown, and reflects the relationship we have with electricity and power. It reflects upon a diverse section of the people of South Africa, and the deep and hidden meanings make this show a very powerfull collection of work by a young artist with the right attitude and clear prospects in life. These artists will not be present for the shows, but both artists will have solo shows later in the year or early next year with Rossouw Modern Art Gallery. SATURDAY 7 AUGUST @ 12PM Join us for some local wines and snacks witch will be prepared by Joshua Rossouw. HUGO MARITZ: Hugo will be present and showing 8 of his latest works that he has completed on his latest visit to Hermanus. Needless to say we miss the young artist when he leaves back to Johanesburg every time. Hugo has now been with the gallery for 13 years, and his work has developed in leaps and bounds the last 8 months. Hugo will be here to explain this latest progression in his style and the works on display. We have the great priviledge of having the show opened by art patron and well known actor CHRIS VAN NIEKERK (7DE LAAN FAME). He is performing during the Kalfiefees in DINSDAE BY MORRIE and DIE RYK WEDUWEE. Chris and I met in Grahamstown and it was soon evident that this man knows and appreciates his art. SUNDAY 8 AUGUST @ 12PM Controversial artist AYANDA MABULU will be showing 3 of his latest works. AYANDA MABULU: Ayanda has recently attained national recognition when he depicted EUGENE TERBLANCHE as a pig in one of his works. This created media outcry about freedom of expression and speech when his work was refused to be exhibited at the show it was intented for. I know Ayanda as a humble and extraordinarily talented artist that I met 7 years ago when he was 21 years old. Together we developed his talent and gift for painting. I always predicted that Ayanda would became recognised this year. After 7 years of dedicated painting it was obvious. The means was unintentional from our side, but it did put him in the spotlight, and offered him the chance to become recognised, and for that we thank the media. His work has became highly collectable. We recently sold 10 of his latest works to a private collector who is going to display them permanently in his private museum in China. We will have more of this story in our newsletter later this month. I see Ayanda not only as an artist, but as an modern day prophet, so came and meet this young man and his interpretation of our current circumstances. WE WILL BE SERVING DRINKS AT THIS OCCASION. BRING YOUR FRIENDS, WALLETS AND AN OPEN MIND. |
